Frequently asked questions
What is paste as?
Copy something, press ⌥⌘V, and choose what to paste it as. Paste As is a small Mac app that converts what’s on your clipboard into the format you need, right where you’re working.
Is my data private?
File conversions happen on your Mac. This website’s demo runs in your browser and doesn’t upload your files. In the Mac app, converting a web link may fetch that page from the internet.
Which files does it work with?
Copy an image, video, text, document, web link, or a group of files. Here’s everything you can paste it as:
- Images
- PNG, JPEG (JPG), HEIC (HEIF), TIFF (TIF), WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, PDF, or the text in an image.
- Text & documents
- Plain text, Markdown, formatted text from Markdown, PDF, EPUB, Word (DOCX), Rich Text (RTF), or HTML. Copy plain or formatted text, or a text, Markdown, HTML, RTF, or Word file.
- Videos
- MP4 (H.264) at full, half, or quarter resolution; WebM (VP9); animated GIF; or audio as M4A (AAC). Make a PNG or PDF contact sheet from video frames, too.
- Web links
- A plain URL, Markdown link, HTML link, desktop or mobile screenshot (PNG), title and link, title with description and link, or favicon and link.
- Multiple images
- A video slideshow (MP4), or a contact sheet as PNG or PDF.
- Multiple videos
- One stitched MP4 video.
- Other files
- Move copied files into the current Finder folder. You can also send printable content to a printer.
Available image formats depend on macOS’s image encoders; readable image and movie files depend on the formats macOS recognizes. Video conversion requires FFmpeg. Paste As requires macOS 26 or later.
